Drug name: Enap (Enalapril)

Therapeutic effects: Enalapril, the active ingredient of Enap, blocks angiotensin-converting enzyme, thus suppresses the formation of angiotensin II and eliminates its vasoconstrictor action. It reduces peripheral resistance, afterload, and blood pressure. Enap also reduces preload, the pressure in the right atrium and in the pulmonary circulation.

Enap prevents progression of heart failure and slows the development of dilatation of the left ventricle. The drug improves blood flow to ischemic myocardium and reduces platelet aggregation.

Indications:

• arterial hypertension
• chronic heart failure
• asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction (as part of combination therapy)

Side-effects:

• cardiovascular system: sharp reduction of blood pressure, orthostatic collapse
• CNS: dizziness, headache, insomnia, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness
• sensory organs: violation of vestibular apparatus, hearing and vision, tinnitus
• digestive system: dry mouth, anorexia, dyspeptic disorders (nausea, diarrhea or constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain), intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, liver dysfunction, hepatitis (hepatocellular or cholestatic), jaundice
• respiratory system: non-productive dry cough, interstitial pneumonitis, bronchospasm / asthma, shortness of breath, rhinorrhea, sore throat
• various allergic reactions
• other: renal proteinuria, alopecia, decreased libido, hot flashes, decreased sexual function

Drug interactions:

Do not use Enap with the following drugs:

• ethanol
• aspirin, NSAIDs
• some diuretics
• drugs with potassium, lithium, theophyllin
• some hypotensive agents
• immunosuppressants

Cautions and restrictions:

Enap is contraindicated in the following conditions:

• hypersensitivity to enalapril, other components of Enap or other ACE inhibitors
• pregnancy, breastfeeding
• porphyria
• a history of angioedema
• patients below the age of 18 years

Precautions should apply in:

• bilateral renal artery stenosis
• primary hyperaldosteronism
• hyperkalemia
• patients after kidney transplantation
• aortic stenosis, mitral stenosis (with impaired hemodynamics)
• systemic connective tissue diseases
• coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases
• diabetes
• renal failure
• hepatic failure
• patients on a diet with salt restriction or on hemodialysis
• concomitant use of immunosuppressants and saluretics
• elderly patients (aged over 65)

Additional information:

Store the drug in a dry place at temperature not above 25 C. Shel life – 3 years.
